The Best PC Games Of All Time 2010 list is accurate as of Nov 2010 update.
Best PC Games Of All Time #1 – Diablo (I&II)
It’s a classic for a reason. Diablo had excellent multi-player, online capabilities, nice graphics, and was thoroughly addictive. Diablo can be blamed for many people inexplicably calling in sick, showing up tired, and destroying night lives. The game itself was simple (you ran around and beat up demons, undead, and other monsters), easy to learn, and thoroughly enjoyable, if a little frustrating at times. Anyone wanting to call themselves a gamer should have these two nomination of the Best PC Games Of All Time List.
Best PC Games Of All Time #2 - Neverwinter
This game was designed with the D&D crowd in mind, but anyone who enjoys adventuring and fighting creatures can enjoy this game. The multiplayer function cannot be beat and the players and dungeon master can create new items and even new worlds within the game. This game is also very addictive and will take over your life, thus it’s ranking on the Best PC Games Of All Time
Best PC Games Of All Time #3- Warcraft
Where would gamers be without it? Well, South Park wouldn’t have had their hilarious Warcraft episode, but ignoring that, Warcraft is an addictive, interactive game with plenty of story, battles, and humor. (If you put your cursor over your units, they’ll say things and the things they’ll say get more and more funny the more times you do it.
That alone makes the game worthwhile to be included as one of the Best PC Games Of All Time. Warcraft boasts a huge online crowd of players for you to chat with, ally with, or beat up. It also has good graphics, plenty of items to pick up, and a standard system to learn. This too will cause you to be late for all of life’s functions.
Best PC Games Of All Time #4 - Half Life
This first person shooter was far more than simply running around and shooting at things. The AI is sophisticated with people and monsters acting intelligently and you can meet allies in the levels to help you escape. There are also creative puzzles and times when you won’t necessarily be fighting at all. (The first chapter has no fighting).
Half Life also introduced the concept of full human beings as enemies. Instead of faceless archetypes, you face off against smart and tough humans who are distinctive in their own rights. The graphics are well done as well, so the monsters can give you a good scare. All in all, it’s not hard to include Half Life as one of the Best PC Games Of All Time.
Best PC Games Of All Time #5- Civilization
Who doesn’t want to rule the world? Even if it’s just a simulation, Civilization allows you to put up or shut up when it comes to how you’d run things if you but could. Civilization has run through a list of sequels and even crossed platforms to the SNES and DS. The game is simple enough in concept with a simple world map to conquer, yet with all the ethnicities and conquerors you can be and all the ways you can rule the world (through warfare, culture, technology, etc) the replay value is endless, thus justifying it’s inclusion on the list of Best PC Games Of All Time..
Best PC Games Of All Time #6- SimCity
Sims is another game that is counted as the Best PC Games Of All Time because it has crossed sequels and platforms and wandered into our hearts whether we want to admit it or not. Everyone has a Sims game for the PC or another machine, stashed away somewhere. If you want to call yourself a gamer, you’ll have one too. SimCity is a classic because it too is simple to play and allows a myriad of options for playing your game.
The PC versions sometimes do have scenarios (the original does) but many people ignore that in favor of building things on your own. SimCity allows you to build up your cities, decide the policies for that city, build up you little people and then in the PC versions watch it collapse beneath fire, flood, or Godzilla. Mwha, ha, ha!!!
Best PC Games Of All Time #7- Empire Earth
Like Civilization, you can build up your armies and your cities to awesome heights. You can choose your time period; it stretches from Prehistoric to the Nano Age and you can choose a slice from anywhere in between or if you have time, run through the entire history and future of mankind.
Empire Earth is highly addictive-you have to explore, extract useful resources, build up cities, armies, and cultural things like churches and can even build wonders like stadiums. The graphics are simplistic, but you will be too busy sailing around or sending your scout dogs out for resources to notice. Speaking from personal experience, this game will conquer your life for weeks at a time and be on your list of Best PC Games Of All Time.
Best PC Games Of All Time #8- Q-Bert
All right, so you won’t find this little guy at a store (anymore), but you can track him down online and there are newer versions of this game. Q-Bert is very simple, in theory, but it tested the patience of gamers everywhere in the ‘80s. Q-Bert doesn’t have the modern graphics of modern games, or the sound, but it’s very addictive, brightly colored, and great for kids. Sure you can fight your way through armies of horrific experimented on humans and hordes of zombies and demons, but can you defeat Mr. Coily and win the day in one of the Best PC Games Of All Time?
Best PC Games Of All Time #9 - Call of Duty 2
PC games are well known for having many shooter games and Call of Duty does this justice, which is why we are including in the top 10 Best PC Games Of All Time. In this game, you are the hero of every battle line, glorifying World War II for you and downplaying the tragedies of war. It has a richly imagined world where the bad guys are truly bad and you are truly good.
It’s the best way to go to war without actually going there. The graphics are great, there are a variety of weapons to use, and your soldiers are tougher than the average man so charging ‘over the top’ is not necessarily suicidal. Call of Duty 2 has all the glory of war with none of the ethics; what fun!
Best PC Games Of All Time #10 - Assassin’s Creed
This beautifully imagined RPG takes place in three of the most important cities during the Crusades-Jerusalem, Damascus, and Acre. Each city is beautifully detailed for exploration and filled with NPCs on their own agendas. In Assassin Creed, You play the assassin Altair who is tasked with assassinating nine powerful figures and on the way you learn about the wars and your larger part in them.
The story is full with the only blemish being the ending which has been termed as confusing and obviously angling for a sequel. However, that can be forgiven for the last entry on the list of Best PC Games Of All Time, when stacked against the rest of the story, memorable characters, the graphics and the sound.
