Raul Meireles Joins Chelsea|Leave Liverpool

Drama on the last day of the EPL football transfer deadline as Raul Meireles Joins Chelsea|Leave Liverpool in the final hours of the window.

Liverpool FC announced on their website one hour prior to the closing of the transfer window that Raul Meireles had submitted a transfer request to leave Liverppol FC. Within minutes, rumors started about Raul Meireles signing for Chelsea FC.

Much like the Fernando Torres transfer from Liverpool FC to Chelsea, Raul Meireles Joins Chelsea by submitting a transfer request in the late period of the transfer window.

We understand that Chelsea FC had failed with a 40 Million bid for Tottenham Hotspurs Luka Modric earlier in the day. Sources also reveal that the transfer fee of Raul Meireles to Chelsea is worth around 12 millions.

On another note, Manchester City’s Craig Bellamy has resigned/rejoined Liverpool FC on a 2 year deal. Craig Bellamy will wear the no 39 jersey number, this is craig bellamy second stint with Liverpool FC.

Analysis:

Raul Meireles signing for Chelsea is certainly a shocking transfer move, the playmaker will add more creativity to the Blues alongside another new signing Mata (signed from Valencia FC). The move will give Chelsea Manager André Villas-Boas the playmaker signing he has been seeking for some time.

For Liverpool FC, Raul Meireles leaving Liverpool can be considered a blow to the new Kenny Daglish managerial regime as the playmaker was one of the most improved player under the new manager.

However as seen with Fernando Torres, the Liverpool Owners seem to have no problems shipping out players who no longer desire to play for the club, even if he is a key part of the team.

This leaves Liverpool FC with the option of Jordan Henderson, Steven Gerrard and Lucas. Italian playmaker Alberto Aquilani is out on loan to AC Milan for 2011-2012 season.

It is also interesting that the Raul Meireles transfer from Liverpool to Chelsea has happened, despite the rivalry between the two clubs to finish in the top 4 champion league spots.
